I put some power steering fluid in the W211 this morning. I left the bottle cap on top of the engine cover while pouring. A gust of wind came and knocked the patented "super lightweight flimsy wispy plastic" cap into the recesses of the dense and opaque engine bay. I now have 7/8 of a bottle of Pentosin with no cap.

same thing happened to me one time except with the cap to my p.s. reservoir!! I had to knock on the splash shield in order to get it back, because I certainly wasn't going to try to remove it with no jack.

Now you have an excuse to drive furiously around an empty parking lot, to try and get it out!

It would drive me crazy knowing that there's a little piece of useless plastic floating around in my engine bay. The capless bottle, I wouldn't really care.

Tiki torch fluid? Worst idea ever?

Or Saran wrap and rubber band.

You read my mind. I did end up putting 8 layers of folded saran wrap and a heavy rubber band over the bottle top.

It hit the bottom shroud, and rattled around a bit. I tried reaching it from above and below, but it was out of sight and out of reach. At the time I was in the auto parts store parking lot (uh, yeah) and by the time I drove home it was gone.

Disaster averted!

Put the rest in a washed out empty soda bottle. Seal tightly. Remove label. Write "Peniston Oils PS Fluid" on bottle with sharpie.

I think there's still an oil cap in my core support. It found a hole thru which I couldn't retrieve it. I wasn't very concerned because of it's location though.
